The Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase has drawn to a close, with visitors declaring the event a success.

More than 15 shows came to an end at the weekend, with the huge marquees and tents packed with precious metals being taken down.

For those within the industry selling their wares at the event the success was an indication of the potential strength of the jewellery and gems market.

With vendors reporting record sales there were grounds for optimism among many, including Indian jeweller P.H. Mehta, co-owner of Elite Exports.

'This year we had a lot of customers,' he said. 'Every year we are increasing our volume,” he told the Tucson Citizen.

The promoter of the show, Al Sargent, agreed, declaring that they would now look to recruit more vendors for next year's show.
