An American jeweller has highlighted the growing amount of affordable yet high quality jewellery now available.

Floyd Silver's Berger & Silver Jewellers has been in the industry since 1914 and he has seen a number of changes in the gold jewellery market since he began work at the age of 13.

"Women only wanted fine jewelry - gold and diamonds. Silver was only used for tea services, platters and flatware," he said describing past situations to Cleveland.com.

The jeweller explained that the situation has completely changed now, with products that mix precious metals like gold with silver and diamonds and other semiprecious stones.

Today's jewellery market offers collections that are "bold, expensive-looking but relatively affordable" according to Mr Silver.

Celebrities are also a key influence in jewellery patterns, with sales reflecting celebrity and fashion industry trends and customers becoming more knowledgeable.
