Jeweller Habib Corporation Bhd has announced plans to open two new stores this year, boosting its number of showrooms to 15 across the nation.

Although setting up a showroom would cost around RM2 million, managing director of the company Meer Sadik Habib explained that demand for jewellery was good as gold prices are rising.

"Jewellery is also a business based on trust. In Malaysia, people don't just buy jewellery just for adornment, it is also an investment," Mr Habib explained to The Edge Daily.

According to the firm it has an edge on other companies because Malaysians are very selective about where they buy their jewellery and Habib offers 45 years of experience.

Jewellery collections from the jeweller are sold all over the world, with money invested by the company into research and development of design and other jewellery issues.
