Jewellery sales are set to experience growth this month after US retail figures show that US consumers are spending again.

New figures for July retail sales have shown an increase of 7.2 per cent compared to last year and a 0.8 per cent increase over June.

Chief economist for the National Retail Federation (NRF), Rosalind Wells, told IDEX: "The strength of July sales demonstrates that June's weakness was simply a blip on the radar.

"July's sales indicate that retailers are clearly poised to benefit from healthy back-to-school sales."

The figures are likely to encourage the jewellery industry, as the luxury goods sector relies on a positive consumer retail market.
