Old racing jewellery goes to auction

Tuesday, 14th December 2004 (4314 views)

Classic jewellery made especially for a racehorse owner in the 1920s and 1930s is to go to auction this week.

The five pieces are set to fetch up to £20,000 at auction in Sothebys, London.

Daniella Mascetti, of Sothebys, told Cambridge News: "This is a very well-designed collection. All the items were made for specific occasions.

"Cartier was at his peak at the time and these are very sleek, very chic pieces. They are classics then and are classics now."

Belonging to the 17th Lord Derby, who died in 1948, the items commemorated some of the winning horses from his Newmarket stables.
