A gold and platinum ring belonging to a former Super Bowl star is to be auctioned on Internet site eBay.

The ring belonged to former NFL linebacker Lee Woodall and was received when his team, the San Francisco 49ers, won the Super Bowl in 1995.

According to the Patriot News, the ring was given to a former business partner of Mr Woodall as part of a lawsuit, who is now selling the item and will not accept less than $60,000 for it.

By last night bids were already up to thousands of dollars and the ring will be up for auction for seven days.

eBay is increasingly seeing big business in sports memorabilia and this sale is set to be a success, with the size 13 ring placed in its original case, engraved with Mr Woodall's name and made of platinum, diamonds and yellow gold.

"This ring is the real McCoy. This ring is huge. It's like putting on a crown," Eric Garonzik, who is selling the ring, explained.
