The chairman of the Atlas Jewellery Group has been awarded for his work in the jewellery industry.

M Ramachandran was awarded 'Businessman of the Year' in Kerala, at a special ceremony attended by key members of the social, political and film sectors, according to the Times of Oman.

Mr Ramachandran said: "I feel really honoured to be a recipient of this prestigious award. I always strive to provide the best of services to my customers spread across the globe. I am happy to note that the organisers have recognised my contributions to the business community."

One major part of the businessman's work has been to bring transparency to the gold business and he was the man who started to advertise gold rates in the media.

In addition, Mr Ramachandran was the founder member of the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group and took on the role of secretary for the group for six years.

Atlas Jewellery has seen huge growth and is the first to have showrooms in the global village of the Dubai Shopping Festival, providing gold rates on a 24-hour basis and the first to offer big promotions in gold retailing.
