Asia improves gold jewellery designs

Tuesday, 25th January 2005 (4804 views)

Jewellery designs in Asia are said to be continuously improving and are now posing a challenge to jewellery makers in Italy.

According to Reuters, improvements have been made in Thailand, China and Turkey and they are moving into markets once dominated by the biggest world exporter Italy.

Fabrizio Filippi, CEO of Superoro, a major Italian jewellery maker, explained: "The Asian market is definitely getting better -- high quality jewellery may be the only market for us in the future but we are still innovating."

According to figures recently released by GFMS, gold jewellery fabrication increased by four per cent in 2004 and most of the growth came from Asia.

"We have our own creative design department. We can definitely compete with the Italians on manufactured gold jewellery, it's not a problem," Feyza Celik, area manager with major Turkey-based jewellery group Goldas said.
