Gold findings in Hungary have contributed to the area's growing interest in the discovery and display of precious metals.<br/><br/>The very latest archaeological finds will be on display as part of a special exhibition entitled "Treasures under the City", to take place later this summer, according to the Budapest Sun. <br/><br/>Hungary boasts some of the richest remains of the Roman Empire of anywhere in the world, with ongoing archaeological digs uncovering much about civilisation in the western Carpathian Basin in the first to the fifth centuries.<br/><br/>At the Hungarian National Museum in Budapest, visitors can view the stunning 24-carat gold jewels typical of those worn by the wealthy and important during this period.<br/><br/>Examples of gold fibulae, the brooch pins used to fasten the togas of high-status Romans, are also on display, and are equally ornate - some set with finely carved chalcedony, garnet, opal and other precious stones.<br/><br/>Rare relics of Pannonia, the ancient Roman colony, can be found in the permanent collection, both in the Lapidarium and in rooms V and VI on the ground floor of the museum.<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=8537642"/>
