Hong Kong tourism fuels gold jewellery expansion

Chinese jewellery retailer Hang Fung Gold Technology is expecting a rush of custom from tourists flocking to the area.<br/><br/>The company has announced plans for a 25 per cent expansion of its flagship exhibition hall in Hong Kong's Hung Hom, according to China's Business Newspaper, the Standard.<br/><br/>Hang Fung Gold has already witnessed a sales growth of more than ten per cent following the last national holidays, and has plans to branch into Taiwan's gold jewellery market in the future.<br/><br/>It's main attraction is undoubtedly the 3D-Gold exhibition hall, inside the Hung Hom centre - home to a HK$38 million gold toilet that attracts between 4,000 and 30,000 visitors everyday.<br/><br/>Chairman Lam Sai-wing said that with tourism expected to rise by 30 or 40 per cent, an additional 30,000 square feet of retail space could be added to the existing 100,000 square foot exhibition hall.<br/><br/>At present the business runs from five other stores in Hong Kong, and will be opening four or five additional retail outlets in the New Territories and one or two in Macau this year.<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=8546881"/>
