Online jewellery sales set to increase

A new report has suggested that online sales of luxury goods and jewellery are set to increase by 31 per cent this year.<br/><br/>State of Retailing Online 8.0, by Forrester Research, claims that US online sales will reach $172 billion in 2005, according to National Jeweler.<br/><br/>Scott Silverman, executive director of Shop.org, said: "Though initially adopted by men as a shopping tool, women are flocking to the internet in droves to comparison shop, research, and buy.<br/><br/>"Online retailers who sell products that are purchased by women are in a favourable position this year, as we expect those categories to grow substantially."<br/><br/>With women said to be increasingly buying their own gold jewellery, online retailers have a key market to target.<img alt="track" src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=8586279"/>
