Asia's largest jewellery show, the Hong Kong Jewellery and Watch Fair, has opened at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and will be running until Sunday September 25th.

This large-scale exhibition, which has been running since 1983, features over 1,950 exhibitors hailing from 45 countries and will of course contain large quantities of gold items.

The fair has experienced massive growth since its inception and buyers gather from all over the globe to view the newest products and secure a good supply for their outlets.

In fact, the show has proved so popular that next year it will be held in the larger, currently under construction, AsiaWorld-Epo building, in order to accommodate the additional 800 exhibitors on the waiting list.

Although most of the trade comes from US buyers, the Chinese have experienced a growth in their home market as citizens become more affluent.

Experts believe that China has proved especially popular with traders, as it does not impose any import or sales taxes.
