Seattle artist Tatiana Garmendia's Body Conscious exhibit is on display at the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Art in Midland, Michigan, US.

Using graphite, as well as gold and silver leaf, she has created some intriguing art pieces focussed on the human body, reports the Midland Daily News.

Ms Garmendia has drawn x-rays to highlight a concept of the body in which diseases and medical procedures disrupt it.

She uses gold and silver leaf to represent the areas of the body disrupted by diseased tissue, fractures and the like. Her rationale is that gold and silver represent holiness in religious imagery.

The Body Conscious exhibit will be running until October 23rd.
