Sabah's tourism board has praised international jewellery exhibitions, saying that they add value and give Sabah more exposure as a major destination for the global gem trade.

Close to 70 contributors from China, India, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Burma, Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia will put their most recent designs and creations on show at Sabah's Magellan Sutera Resort from September 30 to October 3.

Noredah Othman, manager of Sabah's tourism board, said: "We thank the Borneo International Jewellery Fair 2005 organisers for believing in Sabah. It will help expose Sabah to the world as a holiday destination."

John Lo, president of Carlotta's Borneo Group believes the exhibition will contribute greatly to Sabah's local jewellery industry.

He said: "By bringing a lot of designer products, it will give the local jewellery trade the opportunity to update themselves and upgrade their skills, which tend to be very traditional."
