A collection of gold that had been buried underground near Wrexham for an estimated 3,000 years, will be exhibited in October at the Wrexham Museum.

The Bronze Age artefacts cost the National Museum and Galleries of Wales £85,000. Half of that will go to the owner of the field where the gold was discovered, and the rest will be divided by three men who unearthed the collection while out metal detecting.

Among the discovered treasures are a gold pendant and a gold wire-twisted bracelet. The only other known example of the bracelet is in a museum in France.

Andrew Gwilt, prehistorian at the National Museum and Galleries of Wales in Cardiff, believes that the discovery implies that in the Bronze Age Wales was a wealthy area with abundant gold resources.

After the treasure's initial stay at the Wrexham Museum, it will be put on permanent display in Cardiff.
