One of England's most noted jewellers has died at the age of 85, reports the Telegraph.

Richard Ogden belonged to a long line of jewellers. His grandfather James Ogden opened a jewellery shop in 1893, from which he made his name as a master jeweller, specialising in repairing gold artefacts, many of which are now in museum collections.

After passing to his father William, the jewellery business was taken on by Richard, who could boast of clients such as Cary Grant, Ringo Star and Madonna.

He received international acclaim with his twinset engagement and wedding rings, for which he was awarded with a De Beers International Award.

Mr Ogden's son, Robert, now runs the family jewellery business, which specialises in Victorian and Edwardian jewellery.
