Internationally acclaimed watchmakers and jewellery house Cartier is planning to open a boutique in India.

The proposed boutique would either be set up in Delhi or Mumbai, officials said.

Cartier made the announcement at its two-day exhibition in Chennai aimed at promoting its new Tankissime watch line.

Among the watches on display were diamond-studded gold watches, retailing for between Rs eight to nine lakh. At the highest end of the scale, prices went up to Rs 44 lakh.

The 12 watches in the Tankissime line come in either 18-carat yellow gold, pink gold or white gold and many of them are encrusted with diamonds.

Cartier dates back to 1847 when Louis-François Cartier took over his master's Parisian workshop. Today it has flagship boutiques in Paris, London and New York.
