A sledge hockey paralympian who got a nasty surprise when he discovered that his gold metal had been stolen cannot contain his delight now that his award has been returned.

Goalkeeper Paul Rosen's medal was allegedly stolen at a charity event recently but was recovered at a mail sorting centre for Canada Post in Toronto.

Mr Rosen said: "I'm not going to stop showing it. The medal is Canada's medal. That's what it’s all about - letting people see it."

Canada were helped by Mr Rosen to a 3-0 victory over Norway in the Paralympic Games held in Turin last year and he said he began to "lose faith in humanity" after the theft.

The incident made the national news headlines in Canada and Mr Rosen's plight was subject to much support from the general public, not least from nine-year-old Richard Jenicek who offered to give Mr Rosen his gold metal that he won playing football, Canada East online reports.
