Golden Star Resources has announced the beginning of its work on the Pampe project which is located in Ghana.

It lies along the Akropong trend which has been explored by the firm for a number of years now and Gold Star now has apparently a 219,500 ounces gold reserve between all of its projects.

Peter Bradford, the chief executive officer of Golden Star, said: "We are very excited to announce the commencement of mining and delivery of ore to Bogoso from the Pampe Project."

He said this with three reasons in mind. Firstly there will be an additional 219,500 ounces of gold as a mineral reserves. The second point is that these reserves are in a new mineral province, the Akropong Trend.

This trend is about 30 kilometres away from the Ashanti gold belt, which potentially provides a second exploration front.

And finally these additional gold ounces at Pampe are non-refractory. This means they will provide a source of feed for the Bogoso processing plant at an average grade of 3.3 grams of gold per tonne.
