Mafuga Forest results indicate goldMonday, 21st May 2007 (2235 views) Thabex and Devxplore Limited have announced the results of their latest exploration work on the Mafuga Forest project, Located in the south-west of Uganda, this project consists of an area measuring 178 square kilometres which is located in the Kigezi goldfield. This goldfield is very close to the northern continuation of the Kivu gold province which hosts several world-class gold deposits in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. At the moment preliminary geologic investigations of the site by geologists indicate the discovery of four major, mineralised breccia bodies. These extend in a north-south direction for several kilometres and appear to be the primary hosts of gold mineralisation. The trends appear to consist of iron and gossan stained brecciated rocks cross-cut with veins of quartz and gold. Sampling programmes carried out previously also agree that gold mineralisation is present. Future work to be completed at the site includes detailed geologic mapping.
