Tuesday, 22nd May 2007 (2897 views) South American Minerals has commenced the pilot operations of its mobile based gold gravel sluicing plant in the Republic of Guyana, in South America. The plant is located in the St Magdalene Creek area of the country and it is currently producing around 50 ounces of gold during 35 hours of start-up operations. However this will soon be extended to operating for 20 hours every day. The firm is also completing dredging work at the project with three hydraulic suction dredges currently operating on the Konawaruk River area. This dredging work currently totals about 1,636 ounces of gold from January to April this year. This is in comparison to the 930 ounces which were produced during the same four month period back in 2006. South American's mobile plant at the project is set up on a concession measuring approximately 25 square miles which contains gold-bearing gravels but there is, as yet, no assurance that this plant will run on a full-time basis.
