Native Americans to release gold coin collectionTuesday, 29th May 2007 (2439 views) Native American Indian tribes are currently working on producing a series of commemorative coins in conjunction with Panda America Corporation.Commemorative coin company Panda America is working with Native American Indian tribes in order to produce a series of officially minted gold coins which will feature specific tribes. The coins are made of one ounce gold and silver bullion and the tribes work closely with Panda America in the creation of the coins which can feature their logo, crest, specific individuals, former chiefs and key events in tribal histories. According to Panda America, the coin series was first launched in 2002 with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and the Shawnee Tribe and Panda America believes that featuring the tribes in a specific way on the coins helps to give the tribes positive exposure. Furthermore, the coin company notes that each tribe which has a coin issued will also receive a royalty from every coin sold, adding that "with mintages as high as 100,000, the financial benefits for the tribe can be a nice additional source of income". This February saw the 25th anniversary of the China Panda Gold Coin Series with a worldwide mintage of 18,000 gold sets released to mark the event.
