Brit 'knows where sunken gold is'Wednesday, 18th July 2007 (2156 views) A UK researcher has claimed he knows where treasure thought to have sunk after during the Second World War is hidden.Terry Hodgkinson has been researching the lost treasure for 15 years and told the Daily Telegraph he is "confident" that he knows the exact location of the gold booty. According to historians, the gold treasure was deliberately dumped off the coast of Corsica by Nazis after they were driven out of north Africa. Originally, it was believed that the gold was taken by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, however the newspaper claims that evidence points to SS colonel Walter Rauff who commandeered the treasure from Tunisian Jews. "We are confident of the location, but it will require the latest techniques to retrieve it, as the cases, which were once soldered, have no doubt separated and sunk deep into the sand," Mr Hodgkinson told the newspaper. Earlier this year a group of German divers attempted to recover the gold stash from the Mediterranean without success.
