Gold mining company Newcrest Mining is looking to expand on its recent gold discovery in Western Australia, it has been revealed.

According to news.com.au, the gold producer is looking to follow-up on its new gold discovery at the Yilgangi project.

The gold discovery occurred following drilling at the project, located 120 kilometres north east of Kalgoorlie in the Eastern Goldfields.

"Newcrest is planning to conduct an extensive exploration program later next month, which will include diamond and reverse circulation drilling to follow-up on the discovery," it noted.

Meanwhile, Mineweb reports that Newcrest has so far earned 70 per cent in the property - which has been part of Jindalee's portfolio since 2002.

Jindalee previously had a joint venture with Teck Cominco which chose to drill in the western sector of the Yilgangi licence, according to Mineweb.
