A collection of priceless gold jewellery and artefacts, originally collected by the Nizams of Hyderabad are set to go on display at the National Museum in New Delhi, India this week.

Some 173 items of jewellery, dating from the early 18th to 20th centuries, will be displayed in the exhibit from September 27th, including gold-set necklaces, bracelets, bangles, belt buckles and many gold sarpeches, or turban ornaments.

According to Indian news agency newKerala.com, about 100 guards from the Central Industrial Security Force will be on hand for the opening of the display, which a 1991 Southeby's action estimate valued at $162 million (£80.3 million).

Dr Karan Singh, president of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, is expected to attend the opening, along with Ambika Soni, the culture minister.

The National Museum in New Delhi contains over 200,000 works of art, covering more than 5,000 years of the country's cultural heritage.
