Richmont resumes production at Beaufor project

Thursday, 27th September 2007 (1998 views)

The Beaufor mining project, operated by Richmont Mines, has resumed full production near the Canadian town of Val d'Or, Quebec after the replacement of ageing equipment, according to the Canadian Mining Journal.

Montreal-based Richmont Mines had to halt production at the site in July to replace a 20-year-old headframe.

Mining operations resumed at the site near the end of August 2007, according to the publication, followed by a full production start-up this week.

The Beaufor mining property is divided into four projects – Perron, Beaufor, Pascalis and Columbiere – some of which have been explored since the early 1930s, when prospectors discovered gold for the first time at the site.

A gold producer since 1991, Richmont Mines currently has properties in the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland, Ontario and Quebec, which have yielded a combined total of 900,000 ounces of gold.

The publicly-traded company specialises in the development and exploration of primarily underground gold deposits.
