Sierra Gold to verify gold gradesThursday, 25th October 2007 (1882 views) Samples from a gold-bearing rock formation in Sierra Leone have been sent to Toronto, Canada, for laboratory analysis, Sierra Gold has reported. The company will deposit the samples to SGS Laboratories for analysis to see if they verify gold grades identified in Sierra Leone using local methods of processing. According to analysts in the country, the two samples contain more than 2.5 ounces of gold per ton. If the Toronto laboratory confirms positive results, Sierra Gold has said that it intends to begin a trenching programme on the site to determine the strike length of the mineral deposit and develop a plan for a drilling operation. Based in the US state of Nevada, Sierra Gold owns the mining rights to Northern Star Resources, which include a 40-square kilometer mining concession on the North Pampana River. According to the company's website, the river is one of the country's most profitable mining rivers and a mid-1990s study on the mining site indicate a resource potential of 500,000 ounces of gold. Sierra Gold is currently in resource expansion stages on the property.
