A diamond drilling rig that has been commissioned for a new drilling programme at Kenya's Migori gold project has passed through Ethiopian customs into the country, Kansai Mining has reported.

It is expected to arrive on the site by the end of October, travelling towards the city of Nairobi before travelling an additional 290 kilometres to arrive on the Migori property, the company said.

The latest drilling operation at the property is currently underway and will total around 6,000 metres of angled diamond drilling to further test reports that the site contains 1,172,000 ounces of indicated gold resources.

To date, around 600 drill holes have been completed at the site, covering a total of over 50,000 metres.

Kansai Mining is headquartered in Whitehorse, the capital city of Canada's Yukon Territory. The company owns the Migori gold project through its subsidiary in Kenya - the Mid Migori Mining Company.

According to the company's website, gold has been mined in the Migori region of Kenya since the early 1900s.
