Gold has been discovered in a 42-metre stretch of land at Kilimapesa Hill on Kenya's Lolgorien project, Goldplat told Thomson Financial.

The company, which has 50 per cent ownership of the property has also stated its intention to begin a drilling programme at Red Ray and Alpha Ray on the site to test its quartz veins.

According to the news source, Goldplat chief executive officer Demetri Manolis said that an early evaluation programme on the site has been completed ahead of schedule while remaining within the company's budget.

"Historical workings and artisanal mining attracted us to this prospect and the results from the first phase of our evaluation programme are highly encouraging," he told Thomson Financial.

Reports indicate that the company is now developing plans to refurbish an existing production plant on the site, which it hopes to put into operation "in the near future".

Based in London, Goldplat also has operations underway in South Africa and Ghana.
