An additional zone of high-grade gold mineralisation has been discovered at the Sukari gold project in Egypt, according to Centamin Egypt.

The resource company reported that lab results from drilling samples at the operation revealed an intersection of a high-grade gold structure below the site's Hapi Zone.

Situated outside the boundaries of the test zone for the most recent measured and indicated resource estimate, the area of mineralisation is also outside the current pit shell.

Centamin Egypt said the current drilling programme, which is ongoing at the site, has been "very successful" thus far in extending zones of known mineralisation on the site and contributing to the expansion of the gold resource.

The company, which is listed on the London, Australian and Toronto Stock Exchanges, has been actively exploring for gold in Egypt since 1995.

A feasibility study completed on the Sukari Hill gold project in February provided a total resource estimate of 10.45 million ounces of gold, a figure which is expected to increase "significantly" following recent discoveries on the site.
