Thursday, 22nd November 2007 (4794 views) A Christmas-themed event is set to take place at the historic Reed gold mine in North Carolina, according to the Charlotte Observer.The celebration, entitled A Golden Christmas At Reed, is an annual event at the mine and features a daytime candlelight tour of the underground mine tunnels, which have been decorated especially for the holidays. A number of Christmas-themed tours at the mine demonstrate how the miners celebrated the festive season over the years. Visitors also have the opportunity to drop by a 1895 stamp mill, witness historical demonstrations and musical presentations and enjoy a variety of homemade cookies and refreshments. The first documented gold discovery in the United States was made at the Reed Goldmine and is considered to be a historic landmark in the state of North Carolina. It plays host to a variety of holiday-themed events throughout the year, including the four-day Haunted Gold Mine Halloween event, which was held in October.
