Results of a bulk sampling and power-stripping operation on the Bourkes Mine property in north-eastern Ontario, Canada, have been released by Northern Gold Mining.

According to the company, the samples have confirmed the presence of near-surface gold mineralisation on the site and also indicate a high gold nugget factor.

And although due to its small size, the sample cannot be considered indicative of the whole site, the company has stated that the near-surface mineralised zone could confirm historical reports of gold values on the property.

Located 22 kilometres north-west of the gold mining settlement of Kirkland Lake within the Abitibi Greenstone Belt, the mine was an intermittent gold producer between 1918 and 1947.

Based in Toronto, Northern Gold currently has gold exploration projects underway in Timmins and Kirkland Lake and is currently carrying out a series of tests on high-quality gold targets on the past-producing Bourkes Mine site.

The bulk sampling project on the mine was carried out to set optimal targets for diamond drilling operations to be carried out on the site in 2008.
