A Dallas auction house has advertised a very rare gold coin amongst its treasured possessions on offer to bidders.

The $20 gold coin was made in 1907 and was designed by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens following a request by Theodore Roosevelt, who was president at the time.

Its current starting price is $585,000 (£286,000) and is listed in Heritage Auction Galleries of Dallas' new catalogue, which specialises in exclusive, one-of-a-kind items.

The gold coin is among many items in the 50-page promotional catalogue from the auction house.

Other rarities include a map used on the moon's surface in 1972 by Apollo 16 Astronaut Charles Duke and an autographed copy of the 1940 first edition of Ernest Hemingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls", which is valued at $35,000.

Heritage Galleries of Dallies was established in 1976 and is the world's largest collectables auctioneer.

It offers a wide range of Americana, books and manuscripts, art, coins, currency, entertainment memorabilia, movie posters and sports collectibles.
