Study investigates gold mine expansionFriday, 18th January 2008 (1851 views) A feasibility study is planned to evaluate the potential for expanding the Syama gold mine in Mali, it has emerged.According to Trading Markets, Resolute Mining intends to follow up on an initial scoping study, which suggested that free milling resources close to the site's existing plant could increase gold production by around 100,000 ounces per year. The Syama gold project, situated in the southern part of the west African country, is about 300 kilometres south-east of Bamako, the capital city. Construction for a redevelopment programme on the site began in October 2006 and now includes an 84-man security camp, designs for a wet gas scrubber, pumping stations for a nearby river pipeline and plans for a roaster to be commissioned during the second quarter of this year. It is thought that the open pit on the site contains 1.72 million ounces of gold, while stockpiles of oxide and sulphide materials on the site may contain an additional 230,000 ounces of gold.
