Friday, 18th January 2008 (4576 views) Gold medallions featuring the likeness of political and spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi are part of a new exhibition of precious metal artefacts in the Indian city of Chennai.The Hindu newspaper reports that the expo, which is being run by India's largest trading company MMTC, opens on January 18th at Chennai House on the city's esplanade and will run for four days. It will also feature other gold medallions collections, plus other gold and silverware displays. Chennai is located in eastern India, on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. It is India's fourth-largest city, with an estimated population of 7.5 million. For many, Mahatma Gandhi who campaigned for Indian independence as the leader of the Indian National Congress, remains one of the most charismatic and inspirational figures in world history. His teachings on non-violence and civil rights are credited with influencing people as diverse as Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela and John Lennon.
