Tuesday, 22nd January 2008 (2863 views)

The largest collection of gold ever to go on show will come to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in February, it has been announced.

GOLD, which is organised by the American Museum of Natural History in New York, will open on February 15th and run until June.

The exhibition features over 2,000 lbs of gold itself, including a 300 sq ft room covered by three ounces of gold, 80 natural specimens, 170 cultural objects and 400 coins and bars, Huliq reports.

Additional specimens from the museum's own collection will also feature, the news service says. These include the 114 lb Summitville boulder - which is flecked with over 22 pounds of crystalline gold - and the Campion gold, a founding collection of the museum.

Previous exhibits have included the Boot of Cortez, which is the oldest surviving placer nugget in the western hemisphere. It recently sold for over $1.5 million (£767,900) at auction, according to United Press International.
