A higher-grade gold zone has been discovered at the Sterling property in Nevada, the company behind the project has announced.

Imperial Metals said grab sample assays collected from a 30 ft stub drift east of a previously identified mineralisation zone had averaged 0.20 ounces per tonne, or 6.27 g/t gold.

One sample returned a grade of 0.71 ounces per tonne, or 22.1 g/t gold, the company said.

The results are the highest obtained to date from ground east of the latite dike, which formed the eastern boundary of the known 144 Zone mineralised area. They indicate that higher grade mineralisation extends beyond the dike.

Underground test drilling has now started to test the continuity and extent of the deposits, Imperial said.

The Sterling property is located near the town of Beatty, Nevada, about 115 miles north-west of Las Vegas. It includes the Tungsten Canyon, Fluorspar Canyon and Mary claims, which comprise 711 lode mining claims over 5,694 hectares.

Gold mining is currently booming in Nevada, with 82 per cent of gold mined in the US coming from the state.
