Olympic design finalist unveils luxury gold pen tray

Friday, 25th January 2008 (1750 views)

A solid, 14ct gold pen tray has been unveiled by award winning New York-based sculptor and designer Mark Weisbeck.

Described as a "curvaceous, modern, sculptural design", the "Goldenwave" tray is a hand-cut mirror polished gold sheet with an ebony wood base that is upholstered with Scottish leather.

The desktop item is aimed at collectors and aficionados of luxury writing instruments. Each one will be custom made to order at a price of $2,600 (£1,314).

Mr Weisbeck, along with his design partner and wife Diane has had desktop design displayed by the Museum of Modern Art and New York's design catalogue.

In 1990, the pair was awarded the gold medal for desktop accessories from the Institute of Business Designers.

They have also been selected from a field of 2,600 international entries to be finalists in the 2008 Beijing Olympics landscape sculpture competition, the first official art contest in the history of the Games.
