An exhibition of over 200 watches from around the world has been launched by luxury watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre (JLC) to celebrate the opening of its largest store at a new Watch and Jewellery Gallery in Shanghai, it has been reported.

China Daily said timepieces in the show range from antiques to recent designs. They are intended to showcase the history and craftsmanship of the Swiss manufacturer, which was founded in 1833.

Specific items include a pocket watch from 1895, a rose gold Duometre a Chronographe and an Atmos clock, which is powered by a hermetically-sealed capsule of gas and liquid that reacts to small changes in temperature and air pressure and winds the mainspring. As a result, the clock can run for years without human intervention.

JLC is one of 14 high-end jewellery and watch companies located in the gallery, which is located in the third tallest skyscraper in the city, Plaza 66.

The 1,500 sq m gallery, which also includes stores for Chopard, Frank Muller and "jeweller to Napoleon" Chaumet, was officially opened earlier this month in the subterranean levels of Plaza 66's shopping complex, China Daily reports.
