Canada names its gold prospector of the year

Wednesday, 20th February 2008 (2850 views)

Osisko Exploration has won the Bill Dennis Prospector of the Year award for its discovery of the 8.4 million ounce Canadian Malartic gold deposit in Quebec, the company has announced.

It was chosen for the award by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada and will receive the trophy at the organisation's annual awards dinner to be held in Toronto on March 3rd.

The Canadian Malartic deposit is Osisko's flagship development. It is located within Quebec's prolific Abitibi gold belt north-west of Montreal. Between 1935 and 1983, the Malartic mining district produced five million ounces of gold.

Osisko began drilling targets there in March 2005.

The company's president and chief executive Sean Roosen said: "It is our hope that our success at Canadian Malartic will stimulate further exploration in the region and that continued work will lead to the discovery and development of new mines."

Mr Roosen will accept the award on behalf of Osisko, alongside executive vice-president Robert Wares and vice-president of corporate development John Burzynski.
