Thursday, 28th February 2008 (5076 views) Constitution Mining has started phase one of a new exploration programme at its Cerro Amarillo gold project in Argentina, the company has announced. The work will involve detailed mapping and sampling, which is designed to identify trench and drilling targets at the gold-rich porphyry system. Cerro Amarillo, which was discovered in 1970, is located in Mendoza, southern Argentina on the highly prolific Late Miocene-Pliocene arc, which also hosts the El Teniente and Los Bronces properties in neighbouring Chile. Previous sampling at the 14,222-hectare site has returned gold vales of up to 0.98 g/t gold. Cerro Amarillo is one of two projects currently being developed by Constitution Mining in Argentina. The other is the Atena project in Salta province in the country's north-west. Atena covers 3,676 hectares and is located 3,700 metres above sea level. Surface exploration began there in January, with further phases of zone definition and drilling to determine gold mineralisation, planned to follow.
