Nations showcase 2008 gold coins in BerlinFriday, 29th February 2008 (1703 views) A ten-kilogramme gold coin celebrating the Olympics and a new gold coin commemorating the veterans of the Finnish War between Sweden and Russia were reportedly among the new offerings at the World Money Fair in Berlin.Some 22 different mints representing nations and institutions such as the European Union (EU) presented their new designs at the event's Media Forum, Numismaster reports. China opened the five-hour show, unveiling a coin series to celebrate the 13th Paralympics as well as the ten-kilogramme coin marking the Beijing Games. According to the site, it is the largest gold coin ever produced for the Olympics. The Royal Canadian Mint, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, followed China's presentation by launching the design of its new C$300 (£154) gold coin. Designs drawing the rich heritage of Spain were included in the presentation from the Royal Spanish Mint, which included a new 200 euro gold proof. The Royal British Mint also came with an Olympian theme, unveiling a two-pound gold coin that commemorates the 100th anniversary of the 1908 London games. Other presentations came from the EU, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Japan, Germany and the United States. The World Money Fair is the biggest numismatic fair in the world.
