African Gold completes study, plans drilling in Ghana

Tuesday, 18th March 2008 (2541 views)

African Gold Group (AGG) has completed work on the second phase of geochemical surveys at the Assuowunu and Manso Atwere concessions in Ghana, west Africa and is now planning a drilling campaign at the sites, the company has said.

The concessions are located in the Northern Asankrangwa region of Ghana, which contains a gold belt of the same name. AGG currently owns some 94 per cent of active exploration grounds in this area.

Following completion of the survey, which comprised 2,415 soil samples from 4,750 metres of trenching, the company plans a 5,000 metre drilling programme.

Approximately 3,000 metres will be used to test four structural targets within the Assuowunu property, one of which has been the focus of "extensive" historical mining activity.

Another 2,000 metres of drilling will be given over to testing multiple structures at a depth of around 200 metres downhole in the Manso Atwere concession. This work will be centred on the Dwabosso artisan mining pit.

The company said it is now "aggressively" pursuing a deal for a diamond drill rig for the site.

Ghana is the second-largest producer of gold in Africa. In 1999, the country yielded over 2.62 million ounces of the yellow metal.
