Drilling underway at Asumura gold project

Wednesday, 19th March 2008 (4235 views)

Drilling to test targets at the Asumura gold project has got underway, the company exploring the project has said.

Keegan Resources said the focus of its programme will be the NW and Bia targets, as well as testing anomalies at the site.

At present, the company noted, the NW target measures 5.5 kilometres long and contains several zones of mineralisation of 50 ppb gold or more in soil samples and up to 4,911 ppb gold in augur samples.

The Bia target, meanwhile, hosts coincident aeromagnetic, IP resistivity and augur anomalies that indicate a major fault structure with a strike length of over 15 kilometres.

Keegan said the Asumura project as a whole now hosts mineralised structures measuring over 40 kilometres in strike and multiple exploration programmes will probably be required to properly test the site.

Dan McCoy, the company's president and chief executive officer, said: "We are very excited to drill the Asumura property."

The Asumura project is located in south-west Ghana on the western boundary of the Sefwi-Bibiani, one of two large Birimian-age greenstone belts in that part of the country.
