Gold coin collecting 'becoming more popular'Wednesday, 26th March 2008 (954 views) Coin collecting is gaining in popularity according to Robert Bing, spokesman for OmniCoin.com, an internet based community of coin collectors. He states that the increasing value of gold combined with the relative weakness of the dollar at present is enticing individuals into a hobby that could lead to "early retirement" if you had an especially good collection. The site enables members to chat about the hobby as well as to upload images of their coins to show the world and each other. According to Mr Bing there are now over 50,000 images uploaded and available for members' perusal. Mr Bing said: "We have seen an influx in the amount of people who want to start collections. Coins are like real estate, most of the time they rise in value, as long as you hold on to them long enough." In other news, the Peoples Bank of China has released its third set of commemorative coins for the Olympic Games being held in Beijing. The collection is the largest ever put together, with a single coin containing 10kg of gold.
