Gold drilling underway in ChileMonday, 21st April 2008 (569 views) A 1,000-metre, five-hole core drilling programme has got underway to target mineralised zones at the Carmerlita property in Chile's Atacama Desert, it has been announced. The company behind the project, Dorex Minerals, said the campaign will target four mineralised zones at the site. These areas were identified through Dorex's exploration work, which included geological mapping, rock sampling and a geophysical survey, the firm added. Carmelita is an area with a long history of exploration and artisan mining. Previous work on the property has returned gold values of up to 2.16 g/t gold. Dorex believes there is potential for a "widespread" porphyry iron oxide copper-gold style of mineralisation at the site, as well as patches of higher-grade material. The company's president and chief executive Peter Walton said the "significant" discovery of mineralisation at Carmelita would boost Dorex's standing as a junior explorer and developer. "We are looking forward to the results and future continuous exploration on the Carmelita property," he added. The 2,400-hecatre Carmelita property is located approximately 55 kilometres north-east of the city of La Serena.
