Gold testing recovery rates hit 94%

Tuesday, 22nd April 2008 (1025 views)

Metallurgical testing on samples from the Midway gold project in the US state of Nevada has achieved gold recovery rates of 94 per cent, it has been announced.

The company working on the property, Midway Gold, said test samples were taken from a 73 lbs composite sample from veins in the Discovery zone of the property, with an average grade of 5.84 g/t gold.

The company added that the "excellent" recoveries were achieved using a simple gravity separation circuit followed by cyanide leaching of the tails.

Gravity separation recovered around 15.4 per cent of contained gold, while cyanide leaching achieved recovery rates of between 87.5 per cent and 93.1 per cent.

According to the firm, tests indicate that increasing the amount of time ore is left in the cyanide solution increased the amount of gold extracted from it at finer grind sizes, but neither grinding ore finer nor increasing the cyanide ratio in the solution had the same effect.

Midway Gold president and chief executive Alan Branham said: "The excellent gold recovery from Midway using simple processing methods is very encouraging."

He added that the company would now create a 3,000 ft decline into high-grade areas of the Discovery zone to collect a bulk sample for further testing.

Midway Gold currently has three operations projects in Nevada - Midway, Spring Valley and the Pan project on the Battle Mountain-Eureka gold trend.
