Telephone company rings up gold prizesWednesday, 30th April 2008 (1040 views) A telecommunications company in India has given away gold coins in a "lucky draw" for its new customers as part of a regional marketing drive, it has been reported.Newindpress.com states that the firm, Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) - India's seveth-largest telephone company - gave away a total of six coins in the draw, a ten-gram gold coin for the winner, two second place prizes of a five-gram coin and three third place prizes of a two-gram gold coin. To qualify for the draw, customers must have arranged to have a landline telephone connection installed between February 1st and March 31st of this year, the site says. Nagamalla Jhansirani of Jaggaiahpet was the winner of the ten-gram coin, with Addepalli Kiran Kumari of Ramavarappadu and Vinukonda Damodara Rao of Vijayawada took a five-gram piece each for coming second. The third-place coins were won by M Vijayakumar of Chillakallu, G Vajramma of Nunna and Abdul Waheed Begum from the city of Krishna. BSNL's network has the capacity to handle around 47.3 million phone lines. The company currently has around 35.1 million basic phone subscribers in India, with a further 2.5 million internet customers.
