High River Gold sees production rise 37%

High River Gold Mines saw its gold output rise by 37 per cent to 40,248 ounces in the first quarter of 2008, the company has announced.

The Canadian exploration and development firm said it also received C$45 million (£23.1 million) in gold revenues during the first three months of the year, an increase of 47 per cent on its performance in the first quarter of 2007.

Output of the company's individual operations was given as 17,316 ounces of gold from the Zun-Holba gold mine and 16,678 ounces of gold from the Irokinda gold mine, both of which are located in the Republic of Buryatia, a central Asian member of the Russian Federation.

Elsewhere, the company reported that gold production from its Taparko-Bouroum gold mine in Burkina Faso stood at 12,637 ounces for the first quarter of the year.

It added that an "aggressive" drilling programme is also underway at the Bissa gold project in Burkina Faso following its decision to proceed with a preliminary feasibility study for the
