'Gold' hamburger goes on sale in New YorkWednesday, 21st May 2008 (869 views) A hamburger featuring edible gold flakes imported from Japan has gone on sale in New York - at $175 (£88.99) a pop, according to reports.Gothamist.com states that the Richard Nouveau burger, which is the creation of the Wall Street Burger Shoppe in Manhattan, has become "New York's newest culinary status symbol". The site says the dish comprises ten ounces of Kobe beef, which is raised in line with traditional Japanese practices in order to create "exceptional marbling and delicate texture", topped with seared foie gras, shaved black truffles and matured gruyere cheese. It is served in a brioche bun seasoned with handmade truffle mayonnaise and is garnished with more shaved truffles, it adds. Wall Street Burger Shoppe co-owner Heather Tierney told New York's Daily News that the burger is "kind of a work of art". The publication adds that Richard Noveau's creation is the latest in a string of culinary creations targeting New York's "conspicuous consumption" market. Among them are a $150 burger by chef and restaurateur Daniel Boulud and a $1,000 caviar and lobster pizza.
